Hi Richard,
Thank you for the reply.
The UI is needed - because the application which is computing pops up a terminal or console once the job is submitted.
I tried suppressing the output and also tried to redirect it to NULL, both didn't work.
The DISPLAY environment is not set at all in the start script.
regarding xvfb - is it possible to run it even if X server is running on all the compute nodes?

No. Only for interactive jobs started with `qrsh`. You want X11 output for jobs submitted by `qsub` - means: at time the job gets executed there should suddenly a window pop up on your workstation?
