Later versions of Grid Engine (forgot which version was the first one)
ask you whether you want to install the shadow master during
installation, and it should be really easy to enable it - but also
make sure that on the shadow master machines, the SGE_ROOT directory,
esp. the spooling dir, is write & readable.

To safely test the shadow functionality, cleanly shutdown the qmaster
process, and then remove the "lock" file ( default/spool/qmaster/lock
- assuming you have SGE_CELL = default), and the shadowd should start
the qmaster process shortly.
